Using Social Media to Change Minds and Engage Audiences for the Biotechnology Institute

Challenge

Implement a strategic online communications program to better engage teachers, students and the biotech industry and to promote increased functionality on a re-designed Biotechnology Institute Web site.

Strategy

Extensive background research was conducted to identify the best social media sites for each of the three Biotechnology Institute audiences: teachers, students and the biotech industry. WHITECOAT Strategies then launched a comprehensive social media program on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Vimeo to begin engaging in discussions with each of these audiences. In order to build credibility and enlarge the fan-base of the Institute, WHITECOAT Strategies not only engaged in dialogue with audiences, it distributed valuable science education and biotech news through daily feeds on Twitter and Facebook.
